Receiving Blessings

“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Abram is a pretty ordinary guy. Up until now, we don’t really hear anything special about him. We don’t hear of him having a great faith or being righteous so far – nothing that explains to us why God chose him as the man that He would make into a great nation. God chose someone ordinary and imperfect, just like you and me, to bestow blessings upon.
God doesn’t bless us because we deserve it. He doesn’t bless us because we are worthy. We’re not worthy.
Like God’s grace, there is nothing we can do to earn His blessings.
If you think that God will never bless you because you are not spiritual enough or because you don’t deserve to be blessed, God has a surprise in store for you! He sees something special in you, and, out of love, He wants to bless you.
God’s blessings are free. They are His gift to us, and we should receive them with joy and a grateful heart.

Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father…
‭‭James‬ ‭1:17‬a ‭NLT‬‬

Thank You God for all the blessings in my life. I joyfully receive everything You have given me, not because I have earned it, but because You are good. 💜
Amen

In His Image

God didn’t make us like everything else. We are special to him. When he created man, he made us in his image – out of love. He wanted us to be like him so he could have a relationship with us. After creating us in his image, he saw that it was very good. Not just OK, very good.

Remember that when you look in the mirror and see nothing but your flaws. God made every part of you, and he doesn’t make mistakes. He sees every flaw, but he still loves you! He doesn’t compare you to anyone else, so why should you?! He made you unique and you were born just when and where he wanted you. When you wish for a prettier face or a thinner body or a whole new life… You are focusing on the wrong things! Look in the mirror again and find something that you DO like. Look in the mirror without comparing yourself to anyone else. Those eyes, that nose, that mouth – they are all God’s creation and he loves you. Focus more on him and the gift of life that he gave you, and less on your insecurities. Shift your self-image from your physical imperfections to finding his qualities in you. When you begin to see the beauty and the good inside yourself and others, then you will know that you have your Father’s eyes.

When I am feeling less than perfect, I will pray:
Thank you, Lord, for giving me the miracle of life, and for blessing me with good health and a body that functions the way it is supposed to! Please help me to accept my body just the way it is and to make good choices for my health. And help me to have confidence in knowing that you made me just the way you wanted me – from every strand of hair on the top of my head, to the freckle on the bottom of my foot! And that you gave me everything I need to fulfill your plan for me.
Amen

Today’s Scripture:

Genesis 1:26-31a NIV

26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
29 Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.

The Beginning

In the beginning there was nothing except God, and then God created everything. He didn’t just snap his fingers and *BAM*, it was done. He’s God. He could’ve done it that way if he wanted to, but instead he chose to build this universe, and every detail of everything in it, one step at a time. One day at a time. It was amazing and perfect.
Maybe he made a list before he started, like I do. Or maybe he put together a plan, with his end goal in mind. When I face a big project or have an important goal to meet, I need to keep in mind:

1) Take on one step at a time. Extraordinary things don’t always happen overnight. If I try to take on a whole staircase in one step, I would probably fall on my face.

2) At the end of the day, I can take a look at what I have accomplished and see that it is good and I am one step closer.

3) God is on my side and he is capable of extraordinary things. I need to ask him to help me through it and have faith that he will.

Today’s Scripture:

Genesis 1:1-31 NIV
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.
6 And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” 7 So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. 8 God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.
9 And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. 10 God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.
11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.
14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” 23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.
24 And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
27 So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
